양자 보내다: An agreement usually between family members or even close friends without a son who "adopt" or foster a sibling's or close friend's son because that sibling or close friend has multiple sons. This was done to assist carrying of the bloodline which is maintained by male offspring. This phenomenon is not usually practiced in modern day anymore.

(literally) What kind of plans do you have for the New Year?*

*In the sense of "Do you have any New Year resolutions?"


나는 xyz하기로 다짐했어, 결심했어.

I decided to "xyz." (for the New Year)


성공적으로: successfully

성공하다: to succeed


주사를 맞다: to get a shot; to be vaccinated


민간요법: home remedy; folk remedy; a remedy that's been passed on


미신: superstition; urban legend


"old wives' tale"


입학 등록금 / 입학금: registration fee; registration fee

등록금: tuition


major: 전공


넌 무슨 전공이에요? / 전공이 뭐예요?

What's your major?


해결하다: to solve


자애로운: benevolent*

*Just as in English, this is more used in written language.


배려운 사람:  someone who compassionately considers others; a considerate person

I just dropped the kids off at school.

I'm dropping the kids off at school now.


전 방금 아이들을 학교에서 태웠어요.

I just picked up the kids from school.

I just dropped my mother off.
